I’ve always wanted to…

How would you finish that sentence? What have you always dreamed of doing, of being, of accomplishing but can’t seem to give yourself permission to forge ahead? We tend to hold ourselves back, not give ourselves permission to do the things we dream of. Today we’re exploring some of the reasons why.

This morning I was looking at the things I gave myself permission to do and how good that felt. One of my big things is giving myself permission to take care of myself. To look and feel as good as I possibly can. I learned so much when I joined a body fat challenge at the gym. I give myself permission to do things when someone else is involved. Is it because others are counting on me? We would all benefit if we won the prize offered by the challenge but I came out of that challenge looking and feeling better than I had in years. It was amazing!

Why don’t I give myself permission to do this for me?

I did this for my teammates and the challenge of winning. Why isn’t doing it for myself motivation enough?

I’ve been talking to so many people about this and so many of us feel this way. Why do we do this over and over? Is it fear? Is it the habits we’ve developed? Is it the old stuff we grew up with? That voice that whispers that we don’t have the money, we don’t have the time, we don’t have…how would you finish that one?

So what is it that you’ve not given yourself permission to do?

Here are some of the ones I’ve heard recently:

• Travel: Giving yourself permission to have an adventure by yourself or with a loved one?
• A Morning Routine: Taking time for ourselves with meditation, yoga or sitting down with our journal.
• Losing Weight: Developing healthy habits around food.

What would you add to this list? The first step in realizing our dreams and visions is to write them down or tell someone else so leave yours in the comments below. I look forward to sharing your dreams and visions.
